Dear You,

Contrary to popular belief, I don't have a heart of stone.

Although most of my friends say that I am emotionally stronger than most of them, I do believe that there's a big difference between the metaphor I would never admit to be and knowing how to not be dependent over a relationship.

Unlike many people i know, I stayed single most of my life. The longest I've ever been with a guy is 2 years and it felt like forever until he cheated on me, which, looking at it now, is the best gift he could have ever given me. It was my first heartbreak as anyone who experienced being lied to and all, but more than that was because my world was at the palm of his hands, with my consent. After that experience, I learned the most important lesson about love: The world doesn't revolve around just the two of you.

Two years later, I found myself in a new place with new found friends and numerous acquaintances. Until I met a guy, who had "given me forever in a numbered days". He was insanely beautiful and I was crazy about him that I can't help it. That was a great 2 weeks for us, and then he went to where he was supposed be. The conquest of missing someone defines one's vulnerability with factors like distance and with that, I learned the hard way to never settle for what's convenient. Beating time zones was not as hard as 'sitting next to your lover and feeling lonely'.

I wish I said all the things I have wanted him to know in the first place, and most of the time second chances rarely happen. And so I told myself that the next time I do feel that same feeling, I would never hinder myself the pleasure of saying true things. I would trade all the flings and pseudo dates for that moment when we were both looking at the horizon with city lights and starry sky lighting the blank canvas, and our silence gave us warmth from the cold of the night.

The feeling of regret and things in between can always be lighten when you have a shoulder to hang your frustrations on. And it's a pretty good feeling to know someone out there is listening to all your blabs and blahs. Good thing I have someone like that during those down times. And then suddenly, we were going out, together, alone and yes, we did have  a lot of good times together. I found comfort with someone who knew me well more than any guy out there; who accepts me despite the fact of how unlovable I can become. This pretty much sums up how good our relationship would be if we both end up together, but much to everyone's disappointment, well, we already had a shot of that a long time ago. And as you've been told, second chances rarely do happen. As James Patterson best put it, "But remember that you have to move on, somehow. You just pick your head up and stare at something beautiful like the sky or the ocean, and then you move the hell on." I did that one day.

One summer, in one of the most beautiful sights of nature I planted my heart to grow. It was one of those random trips with friends that I met him. A beautiful, smart, complete stranger who actually never talked to me personally the night that we met but ended up talking over the phone till the wee hours of the morning, 6 months after. Talking to a stranger is one of the few real things in this life. We got to share a lot of ourselves to someone who wouldn't mind if you've been a complete a-hole all your life, or you've been part of the dance group during grade school because all that was who you were. Of all those words you utter are purely of understanding, and not judgement.

And so, I jumped for it. with that beautiful complete stranger. Hopped on a plane and hear how completely mesmerizing the sound of his laugh and yes, he had me at that. It was the first time that put all my apprehensions and fears aside and jump off the cliff and I tell you, it doesn't get any better than going for what you want. For the first time, I didn't care of what my brain said, and let my heart did the talking. It was a crazy ride but I wouldn't be anywhere else. That made me realize that Love, as utterly cliche people defines it to be, Love is easy breezy, as Sunday morning. It doesn't make you get up and work so hard and feel tired at the end of the day. Instead, it makes you feel alive that everything is effortless in doing the things you need to do, but only if you have the courage to take that risk of having your heart shattered to pieces and feel like everyday is the world-upon-your-shoulders day.

And then one day, I woke up to a beautiful dream. Reality bites you so perfectly that you became oblivious of the fact that somebody already owns your Sunday. It was ripped-me-apart kind of pain but nevertheless, I had to own up to my fault and decision and hope that this, too, shall pass. I think, that in every happiness, there's always a sad story to it. And my story has to end with the bittersweet memory that  my prince could have given me the world but maybe, I can only take it when I am the princess in my own fairy tale.

It was as real as I remember it to be. The beauty of it all, probably would last until I can't remember anymore. It may not be the happy ending as I have imagined it to be since I first knew love through fairy tales told to me by my parents, but experiences, the mistakes as being part of it, as they say, make you only better.

I remember a guy friend who told me that I have huge boundary issues. That guys welcome that challenge but I built my wall too high to tear down. My fences are wrapped in barbed wire with pit bulls guarding my entrance. I don't know, maybe I do sometimes but if you are to ask me if I'm willing to do it all over again? Without a doubt, in a heartbeat, certainly. I don't mind being broken because it only means I am whole when I love. Besides, if I'll get tired to take the risk, how am I suppose to meet you?

Let me tell you a little secret: I write you letters. Letters that I compose mostly when I am with my friends, on a vacation, doing groceries, or simply taking a hot shower--- all these times when I feel that I am at my happiest. I don't wanna write you letters when I feel lonely because you'll only feel pity for me when you read my writings. As what I always tell my friends, you can only love completely once you learn to completely accept and, eventually, love yourself. So I write to you when I feel the weather a little colder, the sun shines brighter and the music's too good to my ears. That way, I won't feel the need of you completing me, because I am before we even meet. Finally meeting you, my lucky strike, will all be about believing that I have done something right in my life to deserve you.

I now understand that though love is about us at the end of the day, we have to grow individually, and together at the same time. There is a lot to learn in this world and I would like to be the last person to keep you from knowing what's out there. We'll collide our worlds into a bigger world as we learn about each other in the process. That, if distance separates us, know that I wouldn't trade what we have for anything, even If it's Ryan Gosling we're talking about. We'll create new memories together, sign arrival cards and know cultures and eat street food; make you your favorite breakfast as we watch the sunrise sipping coffee talking about things that matter and what doesn't matter. I wouldn't care that you fart too much or that you sing a little out of tune with your wrong lyrics. We'll be each other's best friend. I will tell (or write to you) you what's bugging me and you can tell me everything and expect a little scolding but that doesn't mean I love you any less. I will make all days of the week a Sunday or at least at the end of your hectic days feel like Sunday.

Sometimes, I wonder when I would finally meet you. I told myself a lot of times that I am ready to take on a 1&11 kind of love but to every piece of me that says that, another piece answers me back with a question about you, "Are you even ready for me?" Maybe, right now you are in a fucked up relationship with your high school sweetheart. Maybe, you just came from a devastating breakup and trying to find yourself. Maybe, you enjoy singlehood too much you already became so coward of being attached to someone. Maybe you are so busy concentrating on your career and getting rich. Maybe you still have hang ups about your past. Well, truth be told, I have my own share of Maybe's like you have. I have my own demons to conquer, too. Maybe, I'll meet someone better. Maybe, I am not pretty or smart or rich or intelligent enough. Maybe, I'm better off alone. Blah blah. My maybe list about you and me will go on forever.

Nevertheless, I have a firm belief that one day, God will destined us to meet, somewhere, somehow, at His right time. That time when we already know who we are, what we want and what we are scared of losing. I will be waiting for that day. And once you finally find me, please know that I am a sucker for letters of your own handwriting, that I prefer breakfast dates over any meal of the day because I pretty much love mornings. That I love it when you kiss my hair and hug me so tight I could drown in your arms. That I always replay in my head our last (perfect) kiss before we part ways so better make it count! Above all, I always say the wrong words so please listen to my heart ( or better read my blog hahaha) when what you hear seem to fail you.

Love,

Mae Ann

PS. Please find me still lovable even when I am a mess when I eat. That's what you are to me whenever I see you, I find something to love you even more.

Why we settle

“There are many things that can keep you in a relationship," I say. "Fear of being alone. Fear of disrupting the arrangement of your life. A decision to settle for something that's okay, because you don't know if you can get any better. Or maybe there's the irrational belief that it will get better, even if you know he won't change.”

Everyday, David Levithan

I am just glad I'm not afraid of being alone, cause really, I'm more afraid of settling for someone when I can't give it my all in a relationship. I'm more on all or nothing kind of person. XxMae

A FRAGMENT OF MY LETTER TO YOU, WHOEVER YOU ARE p.2

Watching the sunrise in Angkor Wat with Virna
Dear You,

At this very moment, I wish you could find me now or see me in a different light when you wake up.
These are the moments I wish I could share to you, with you. I want to make time to go out of my way just to see you, to stare at you when you're not looking and thank all the stars of how lucky I am for choosing me despite the time, distance, and priorities. I want to share a lot of laughs, not at you, but with you. They say that taking care of someone is addicting. Well, I wouldn't mind taking care of you. I believe surprises are lethal because they can make you believe that actions do speak louder than words. I wanna do all that and more; not really the grandest but those little things that make big differences which make you see each morning differently, in a beautiful kind of way. That I would always look forward to waking up knowing I am not missing the reason why I am living-- to love truthfully, with all my heart. And what makes it larger than life is the fact that I am sharing all this to you.

With all love and waiting,
Me

BLOG WORTHY ENTRY

I just want to share to everyone this great, like hands down 'great', short film by Wong Fu Productions. They caught me since the first time I watched their short film, "Strangers, Again" ages ago. Here is another film, entitled "The Last", which is really really amazing; got me speechless so my eyes did the talking through some unwanted tears. Haha. I am thinking of probably writing my own, "How many have I loved?" kinda stuff. Cheesy, right? But atleast, that got me inspired. :)

I know it's been quite a while since I did post on my blog, and I think this one is worthy of an update. Anyway, enjoy the video!

And Here's the link to Strangers, Again so you can be a fan, too

10 million views, see that??

Tell me what you think after watching it!

XOXO

Mae :)

THAT CYCLE

Credits to Mamita Chik Rivera for this beautiful post. You can visit her site, http://permanentlydisturbed.tumblr.com

It’s funny how some of us resist changing our disposition for other people, but the moment they leave our lives we realize they were right and positively worth it.  Then we decide to change, only that your moments together are now just memories, some good and some remain bitter. Then we say, maybe next time, I would do this and not do that but then some forget their lessons and fall back into the cycle..
Bapi Rivera for this kind of people, we therefore exert less and expect less. They probably hasn’t found their ground yet, has not let go of the remnants of their past or they just hold on to their ego too much to work things out.
Our course of action is to detach from them, remain open to possibilities and choose someone whom we don’t have to give 80% into the relationship while the other sits idly with just 20%.
We deserve nothing less and nobody but the best. Matud pang Virna “Kanang pinangga ta, kay Mamita ra ba ta!”.
Mae Ann, best doesn’t exactly mean perfect. If I may borrow my married guy friend’s thoughts, it’s someone who would reciprocate your efforts and love without being asked, someone who makes you feel you’re a better person and would bring out your best when you’re with them but would also stand by your side when at times you’re at your worst.
And when we find this kind of person, maybe a friend or more than that, we treasure them. We give them our best as well, as long as we put the boundary between selflessness and self-respect. Giving our 90% to them gives a return of a 190 % but everything feels effortless. This cycle is the one we would like to fall into.
We deserve the best and they deserve our best as well.
I should learn these too ;)

How Far Do You Go To Chase Love?

Imagine waking up at 2 in the morning. Take a bath, put on those uniform and make up and head to the office for work at 330. Do a four-sector duty greeting the guests, and keeping them safe until 12 noon. Go home. Look at the next day's schedule and realize you actually have more than 24 hours rest because your duty will start at 9 in the evening and will end at 4am. The day after tomorrow, you'll be like Cinderella as your duty will begin at midnight until the sun hits it big at 11 in the morning. Check the airline website for available flights. No--actually, you already have your own copy for that particular destination. Check the time on your watch. There's still time before the last flight hit the 45-minute counter closed. Change your clothes and immediately head to the airport still with the make up on. All your efforts are paid off because you get to have your boarding pass! And then there's this bit of delay which is really frustrating. Boarding, take off, inflight, landing. You won't notice that, you're too busy dozing off on your way. And when you see that person meeting you with that big smile on his face, you let out that big smile too as you tell your sleep debts to kiss your ass because you won't be sleeping anytime soon. Yes because you'll do it again the next day. Hop on an airplane ride on its first flight and meet the airport at dusk to catch the last flight back home to become Cinderella. And yeah, debts will be paid, but not too long. 3 days off. You'll soon be back on that place where you have left your heart. That's where your real home is.

Lucky You

Dear Princess,

How does it feel having your Prince Charming by your side and starting your happily ever after?
I have been dreaming that myself for the longest time. I have desired to have someone to have and to hold, too. Despite my weaknesses and imperfections; my being stubborn and mean, I have been waiting for that knight in shining armor who would rescue me from this life of insecurities and broken hearts. Maybe this is one of the reasons why I am like this. Or it could be the only reason. I believe that everything we do in life is a way to be loved a little more. Though most of you would disagree with what I say and do, well, this is my way.
I was once like you, Princess. I was once idealistic of the happily ever after. I once sat on a tree and sang melodies together with the birds on a summer morn. I once believe that I would wake up to a true love's kiss. I once hoped that my feet would fit those glass shoes. But life is not all singing and be merry episodes. I learned  because I've seen people get hurt that much but still put themselves out there. Over and over, like they never get tired of it and then they love some more and fail some more. They never learn. I had my share of those moments, too. But I learned that lesson enough to keep people for hurting me. So I build my walls too high for them to tear down. Do not mean what you say, and do not say what you mean is an affection I've learned over time. I was guarded with my own emotions. Do not blame me, I am just putting myself in a favorable position.
You are one very lucky person to have found the love of your life. Very few people get the chance to do so. When you started you lives to always and forever, everyone on your kingdom expects a lot from you. Everyone you know were there present and couldn't be happier for you both. He saved you from poison to all those evil dragons with his knight in shining armor. You woke up to his kiss because he is your true love and you are his. But love him more with his armor down. That's the real him, the person that he is.  Sing with him when he's singing his heart out. He's just happy you are together. No matter how wrong his lyrics are, or how out of tune he is when he's singing the chorus, join him and notice how beautiful you two sound together. Dance with him even if you're a terrible dancer. He's one great dancer, and just follow his steps, he'll teach you how to  anyway. Don't worry much about the crowd because he doesn't and just dance to the music. Laugh when he cracks jokes but never forget to tell him if it is corny. Hugs are free, so do it as often as you could, especially during mornings. Kiss him when he's happy, kiss him more when he's sad and  ask him to kiss you when he's about to get angry. Cook for him and let him cook for you, even if you both end up in the bathroom, you need not worry because he will always let you have the toilet first. Leave little notes on how much you adore each other and never forget to say I love you, and mean it, always. Make funny faces with him for no reason and never stop playing--- the world is your playground; and act like children, sometimes, even if you are grownups.Trust him on his decisions; he is a prince for a reason.  Let him be the person that he wants to be without eyes judging him and stand up for him, especially, if all eyes are on him.
He is the most beautiful person you could ever meet. The one every woman, would like to have and to keep as theirs. I once had that kind of man, too. He was, by far, the biggest leap of faith that I ever took in my life.  Yes, I wanted him that much. But ours isn't a fairytale. I have to let him go because the kingdom won't approve of us. I wonder if there would even be people attending to our celebration. I wonder what it would be like seeing him lose everything he worked so hard for. Worst, seeing him with regrets on choosing a villain over a princess. Maybe, in another lifetime, when I am the princess in my own fairytale.

Take care of each other and make each other happy with the little things.

With all love,
Evil Witch

Leave of Absence

Took a leave of absence from writing down my thoughts on a blog and give in to the little notes on twitter instead. I remember clearly, it was exactly 6 months ago that I last updated my site. I was then talking about my birthday wishlist, how I don't feel pressure of not having a boyfriend and some other stuff. A lot of things happened in the past months. It was a rollercoaster ride emotionally, and yes, physically because of my work schedules. I have sent from heaven one day and hell the next.  Most of the time, my emotions always get the better of me. I used to not be like this. The trait of not caring which I certainly acquired from my father became a deviant emotion that I myself was actually surprised about.Six months always has some significant happening--my credit card limit gets higher (haha), I put the big ticket items in installment for six months, not to mention I had the happiest 25 weeks of my life, wishful thinking. Six months flew too fast and I have a lot of stories to tell. Six months.  I hope to meet with the my dashboard more often though so I can share to the world what it is!

"I am asking a lot, because I am worth a lot."

Say that infront of the mirror every time you try to settle for something less that you know you deserve. To all women out there, this one is a must read. Know your worth and don't let other people tell you otherwise.

In a brief conversation, a man asked a woman he was pursuing the question: "What kind of man are you looking for?"
She sat quietly for a moment before looking him in the eye & asking, "Do you really want to know?"
Reluctantly, he said, "Yes."
She began to expound:
"As a woman in this day & age, I am in a position to ask a man what can you do for me that I can't do for myself?
I pay my own bills. I take care of my household without the help of any man.... or woman for that matter.
I am in the position to ask, "What can you bring to the table?"
The man looked at her. Clearly he thought that she was referring to money.
She quickly corrected his thought & stated, "I am not referring to money. I need something more."
"I need a man who is striving for excellence in every aspect of life."
He sat back in his chair, folded his arms, & asked her to explain.
She said:
"I need someone who is striving for excellence mentally because I need conversation & mental stimulation. I don't need a simple-minded man.
I need someone who is striving for excellence spiritually because I don't need to be unequally yoked...believers mixed with unbelievers is a recipe for disaster.
I need a man who is striving for excellence financially because I don't need a financial burden.
I need someone who is sensitive enough to understand what I go through as a woman, but strong enough to keep me grounded.
I need someone who has integrity in dealing with relationships. Lies and game playing are not my idea of a strong man.
I need a man who is family-oriented. One who can be the leader, priest and provider to the lives entrusted to him by God.
I need someone whom I can respect. In order to be submissive, I must respect him.
I cannot be submissive to a man who isn't taking care of his business.
I have no problem being submissive...he just has to be worthy.
And by the way, I am not looking for him...He will find me. He will recognize himself in me. He may not be able to explain the connection, but he will always be drawn to me. God made woman to be a helpmate for man. I can't help a man if he can't help himself."
When she finished speaking, she looked at him.
He sat there with a puzzled look on his face.
He said, "You are asking a lot."
She replied, "I'm worth a lot."

On Moving On

"when people make you feel unwanted, don't leave to make them feel sad or guilty, they won't. Leave because you no longer have a reason to stay. Sometimes you have to be strong for yourself. What’s meant to be will end up good and what’s not - won’t. Love is worth fighting for, but sometimes you can’t be the only one fighting. At times, people need to fight for you. If they don’t, you just have to move on and realize what you gave them was more than they were willing to give you."

Same Old Brand New Me

Dear Tumblr,
I've written this entry in your account 3 weeks after I was based in Cebu ( April 21, 2010). I just realized that I still want the same things as the one I've written there a year and four months ago.  The person I was referring to here, at the time being, is in a skype-driven love and yeah, we're still friends. Well, I gathered all the courage I could muster and asked him about us since I felt it has been a long delayed question. Plus, we have our own lives  now. He said he used to like me, but wasn't ready for a relationship yet. I don't know though, if he still likes me but I think he does! Haha! Just kidding! This would probably get to him sooner or later and he might just kill me for baring everything we understand about each other today. But whatever, we're friends.
Reading this again though brought me to thinking about how stupid I was for taking for granted the person who showed for real what this entry was all about. I should stop saying sorry to him, because I am, in fact, sorry for myself for realizing it too late. Well, lessons have been learned.

I woke up today with a heartache.  I need to have myself fixed before I become overly emotionally attached to this person. I never understand why I have to break down my walls I long built up for myself and let uncertainty stay close. And now, its even closer. I used to just be cool with it. No hassle, no drama, no demands.
But see, eventually, you’ll be coming to a point where you’d ask yourself of what’s missing. Those ‘what ifs’ that has been repeatedly playing in your little world called mind. This little world has too much toy-questions like, ” Why do you have to settle for a thing like this?” or “This is what you want, right?” until you won’t have a choice but to answer the questions you consciously been trying to get away from.
Let me tell you something. I am a sucker for romantic chic flicks because I want a happy ending. I listen to superficial love songs because I want a person I can sincerely dedicate it to. I envy couples that are crazy about each other because I want to be crazily in love, too.
My friend, who used to play around relationships,as far as I can remember, told me he’s ready to wear love up on his sleeve this time. He said, he wants something more than just one night stands or dating or hanging out. He wants sleepovers, DVD Marathons, unplanned trips, with someone for keeps. I used to not believe him, by the way. But then sometimes, you just gotta have faith.
I am putting this heartache here to let it stay here. I don’t want to waste my time putting up emotions over the uncertainty of what’s out there. I want to be good enough for that someone. I want someone willing to take the risk with me because he wants me THAT much. I want someone I can love like crazy and would love me the same way back.

On being Productive

Dearest Mamitas Virna and Chikay,
Thank you for last night's sleepover. I wish I could just transport everything I own in Salem and be with you guys. But you know my lazy ass well, so I'd probably be staying in the most depressing place on earth a little longer. But definitely, more sleepovers this time since I now know where you stay and how to get there without riding a cab which I find totally expensive. And of course, I want to be with you guys, too! Tin, Mhay, and Chi are great roomates as well and I probably tag them along in one of our Pasta and Wine nights. I wish Pinky lives a little closer and her salary gets a little higher (haha!) so she could be with us, too.
I missed talks like that. I missed us. I missed writing again. I missed being smart. This place makes me think of nothing else other than facebook and twitter which I really hate. Being here makes me really lazy even more. I want to stop all this non sense and start being productive again. And so, you guys inspire me. Chik, I want to read the books you're reading  and take down notes, too! And Virna, I want to be creative, too! haha! Scrapbooking is definitely one of the many ways.
Thank you trying to convince me to move in with you. I will, after the rainy season. Promise.

PS. Last night, the problem with me was that I don't know what I want. I know what I want, It's just that I find it so hard to put it into words. So I'm gonna try this time.
Aside from the given basics, I just want someone who can show me that it is okay to let my tallest and thickest guard down which has always been my problem. That I can be myself, despite my inconsistencies and insensitivities, and  who will make me realize that I should love with no regrets. And yes, like what Chik said, "Okay lang na lumabas kasi secure kami sa isa't isa; dahil takot syang mawala ako (or vice versa) kaya alam kong hindi nya gagawin yung mga bagay na makakapaghiwalay sa'min." Yes, I'd like that.
