GOAL: TO PURSUE A PASSION

We all want something. That's why we save up. Most of them are material things, because it is a medium for our happiness. While some people save up for big ticket items  like car and their house's downpayment, some save up for material things, like the newest  iphone5 or for ladies, a new designer bag. I, on the other hand, have on thing in mind : invest on yourself. I have been thinking so hard on my 'invest on yourself' goal. It was just not so long ago that someone taught me to save up for the rainy days. It is such a shame that I've been working for 4 years now and yet I don't even have a penny to my name. I used to think that I'll start saving when I meet Mr. Right for me, and together, we'll save up for 'our' future. I wanted to enjoy my salary since I don't have kids to support yet and buy the things that I love since college but don't have the means to because my parents could not afford buying for me when they have to pay for my tuition. And now, at 25 and in months' time I'll be 26 (Gah. I'm getting old.) and still has not met the one, I'm getting kinda scared for myself. I have been so enamored with my state, I forgot how is it going to be in the future.  It is true, time passes by so quickly, and I learned that if only I did get myself a car on my first year at work, 2 years more and I will have no problems on saving up again not to mention that I could have been going home everyday and not staying in the dorm with a humble rental of Php5,500/month across the office where there's no life aside from internet and batchmates who also have lives of their own.  What if I get to meet him later in my life? Or worse, what if I would really end up alone? What's going to happen to me? Time waits for no one.

I wanted to step up the ladder in my career and go international.  But sometimes, the things that you want are not what God has planned for you. I should, with all my heart learn and accept that His plans are better than my dreams. But life doesn't wait for me to get on my feet. I wanted to move, do something with my life other than this job. I know I wanted to be here in the first place, but I wanted to be more than this. Learn something. Feel like a student.  I started reading books again. I started to practice writing again which I do by blogging at least twice a week. I wanted something more. I remember saying to my friends that I wanted to go International and save a lot of moolah to become a pilot. Actually, men's jobs really interest me. Engineering, Aviation, even Welding! :D haha! But since, going into really 'flying' the aircraft will mean 4 million pesos out of my pocket, or 2M if I get a scholarship, I still wouldn't know where in the heavens will I get that amount. So after all the thinking and brainstorming with myself, and reading the Happiness Project for that matter, I came up with the decision to pursue a passion. A passion, according to the book, must actually be the one that you wanted back when you were a kid. I remember, I used to be in my Aunt Lydia's room while she was dressing up to go to school (she's a teacher). I was 6 or 7 then and I would try her make up on when she's gone.  I would look at her with enthusiasm while telling her to leave her make ups and jewelries to me when she gets old. Today, I still get excited doing my own make up but I'm happier doing my friend's make up and hair (even if it means just curling it). I'm happy seeing them looking better and  thanking me for a job well done. I still have the same look since childhood whenever I see someone putting on some make up. My mouth open, and my eyes eyeing eagerly on the subject. I get excited when I see make ups not because I want to wear it myself but would want to use it for other people.
Friends are telling me that I'm slowly becoming an entrepreneur since I'm venturing on selling items. Not that I have charisma on selling because I just hand the items over to my friends and they sell it themselves. Not that  I get a lot from it. It's just that I wanted to save up money because I have a goal that I'm still trying to figure out. So I figured, really- I want to do make up. I have long wanted this.
So now, I have a goal two goals. NUMBER ONE, IS TO GET MYSELF A COMPLETE MAKE UP BRUSH SET. AND SECOND,  TO GET IN TO A MAKE UP SCHOOL.
I included the first as a goal because it's actually more expensive buying it than the make up school's tuition. So, definitely will be selling more items to my friends. I will have to learn some selling skills myself. :)
How about you, do you have a passion? Then start doing it. It's never too late until it's too late. Remember, time waits for no one. :)

xoxo,
Mae

By the way, I was thinking if I'm going to buy this. It will only be available for the next 9 hours so I have to decide if I'm gonna get it. I've done research on the school and it's quite a good one. What do you think? Is it a modest splurge?

TWO

I was browsing through my old pics in my multiply site when I stumbled upon this picture. I was, if not mistaken, two at the time this was taken. It has been almost 24 years and I figured, how time flies. Soon I will have a two year kid of my own. I wonder what I was learning this time. Like my nieces and nephews, these kids are terrible two's. They're like sponge. They absorbed everything you teach them and they want to experience everything, from food to nail polish they see on the big ones.  I wonder what my kids will look like. I wonder if I can grow them in a good way. I hope I'm capable of that. :)

THAT CYCLE

Credits to Mamita Chik Rivera for this beautiful post. You can visit her site, http://permanentlydisturbed.tumblr.com

It’s funny how some of us resist changing our disposition for other people, but the moment they leave our lives we realize they were right and positively worth it.  Then we decide to change, only that your moments together are now just memories, some good and some remain bitter. Then we say, maybe next time, I would do this and not do that but then some forget their lessons and fall back into the cycle..
Bapi Rivera for this kind of people, we therefore exert less and expect less. They probably hasn’t found their ground yet, has not let go of the remnants of their past or they just hold on to their ego too much to work things out.
Our course of action is to detach from them, remain open to possibilities and choose someone whom we don’t have to give 80% into the relationship while the other sits idly with just 20%.
We deserve nothing less and nobody but the best. Matud pang Virna “Kanang pinangga ta, kay Mamita ra ba ta!”.
Mae Ann, best doesn’t exactly mean perfect. If I may borrow my married guy friend’s thoughts, it’s someone who would reciprocate your efforts and love without being asked, someone who makes you feel you’re a better person and would bring out your best when you’re with them but would also stand by your side when at times you’re at your worst.
And when we find this kind of person, maybe a friend or more than that, we treasure them. We give them our best as well, as long as we put the boundary between selflessness and self-respect. Giving our 90% to them gives a return of a 190 % but everything feels effortless. This cycle is the one we would like to fall into.
We deserve the best and they deserve our best as well.
I should learn these too ;)

THE DAYS ARE LONG AND THE YEARS ARE SHORT

What are the things that make you happy?

This is one question I asked of my friends whenever they feel down or depressed or, simply unhappy.  Of course, we have big things in mind. I, for one, have this dream of owning a car, or venturing in a business, seeing my savings account have a lump of moolah for the rainy days in a year or two. Yes, going international--- these would definitely make me happy. Because with that dreams are resolutions fulfilled.  But these things will also mean a lot of fleeting unhappy moments for me because that means less shopping, less travel, and less everything. So I want to keep record of the things that would make me happy, without feeling guilty about it later. This means little things, things that I failed to recognize in my everyday life because I am busy going though it. I want to remember these things so whenever I feel sad about not achieving the 'big' things, I would realize that 'small' things could also pave way to my happiness. And actually, it's almost the same happiness. Almost. :)
I have these things in mind but I'm still planning to update it everytime I experience happiness in my everyday.  I encourage everyone to keep track of your own 'little' happiness, too. :)

- watching the sunrise/sunset
-showing up on special occasions
-when someone surprises me with food when I'm really hungry
-when I paint my nails and it dries up flawlessly
-when I sing in the shower, or just anywhere
- when I make it to the office 20 minutes before sign in time since I am known to be always 'on-the-dot'
-when aircraft arrives on time or ahead of time is happier
-whenever I cook
-and have someone appreciate it would be happier
-when I do someone's make up
-and she loves it would be happier
-when I publish a post on my blog
-when someone I've met remembers my name
-when I take a good picture
-when I love my new hair color
-when I get a free ride
-when my friends buys my stuff! haha

Aside from the 'little' happiness, they say that unhappy people lacks three things:
-Something to do
-Someone to love
-Something to look forward to
And if you have these 3 things, it will be very hard for you to be miserable. :) I don't want to sulk into loneliness just because I am lacking on the second. So until he comes, I will be busy with 1 & 3. Also, I wouldn't want to waste a day not doing anything. "The days are long and the years are short.", as Gretchen Rubin puts it. Sure, I want to have days where I can just lounge around my bed and do nothing but every day is a chance to learn a new thing. So, I have this list of things I want to do. I hope I get to that one day. :)

-learn the windows moviemaker
-learn a new language
-learn how to drive
-to sign up in a make up class ( but I need to have a complete make up brush set first)
-read a book a month
-to go an a trip alone
-to tour ilocos-cagayan valley-batanes
-to tour saigon-cambodia-bangkok
-to religiously exercise

I hope everyone would see that happiness is just around the corner. Sabi nga sa Coke commercial, "ipinanganak ka para maging maligaya."

CALL US, MAYBE?

I would like to apologize for the typo errors i made in my previous blog entry. I just came from a red eye flight (which means, my duty started in the evening and ended the next morning) and I was fulfilling a nagging task to blog. It became my resolution to update my blog at least thrice a week just so I have something to do with my day. I was so groggy I couldn't think good words to show how ecstatic we were during Love's baby shower! I just wanted to finish my post, but looking at it now, maybe I would need some editing, but I was happy I got a check of a resolution i'm still trying to fulfill.
Anyway, let me just say that I love my friends so much because we are all crazy! Crazy as we all are, we, made a a video which features the overrated song Call Me Maybe! I hope you'll have fun watching it as much as we had fun making it!
